=====Classes, Workshops, Retreats

CLASSES AT BROOKFIELD CRAFT CENTER:

FILIGREE BEADS IN POLYMER
Fri. (10am-4pm) June 20

Jody Bishel
Create a "queen's ransom" of intricate, airy polymer clay filigree beads in this fun one day workshop. The techniques presented are not as hard as they may seem; once you know the secret of using a temporary armature that washes away after the bead is baked. This group will also explore making the foundation tube bead, working over the armature; and there will be discussions on how these techniques can be adapted to make larger objects. Students will need to have mastered the basics of polymer clay; but do not need to be experts to enjoy this challenging class.
(A lab fee will cover materials) Tuition: $115 for members, $140 for nonmembers

SECRETS OF POLYMER CLAY
Sat. (10am-4pm) July 12
Tracy Van Buskirk
Polymer clay is a versatile, colorful, and ultimately forgiving material; but knowing a few basic tricks can greatly improve results. Students in this fun one day workshop will learn how to make detailed millefiore canes plus how to embellish beads and other sculptural objects. Topics covered will include: basic cane construction, design with color, color blending, plus several different reduction techniques. As time permits, students will make their own finished pieces. Safety issues, product brand choices, materials storage, and useful tools will also be discussed. (A lab fee will be charged) Tuition: $115 for members, $140 for nonmembers

===== Minutes from April 19, 2002

MINUTES FROM THE APRIL 2003 MTG OF SCPCG 4/19/03

Meeting called to order at 11:30 am
No demo for this meeting, but we will be taking digital photos of members’ work for our website. We will continue the photography for a couple of months, so please bring a few small pieces.

There were 12 members in attendance.
Welcome new member Bianca Terranova.

We’ve opened a Bottles of Hope Forum on Delphi. Please visit and post to keep it active. Links to the page are in the newsletter. You can also use the link on the Guild website www.scpcg.org .

There will also be a SCPC Guild message board on Delphi. It should be completely set-up soon.

The new BOH website has graphics, tags, information on what BOH are all about and links to the forum and the guild’s website.

Tracy will be distributing more than 200 BOH at the Relay for Life in Bethel. Each participant will get a bottle. Diane Gregoire will be distributing BOH at the groundbreaking of a new cancer center in Rhode Island, Cancer Cooperative Center. They picked BOH as the theme for the groundbreaking. They will be giving out a special etched glass paperweight with a BOH image to the largest donors. Diane is designing the bottle and she will be receiving one of the paperweights for the guild.

The exhibit at the Yale Physicians building is over, but they have selected 10 bottles from the exhibit to be on permanent display.

Diane will be holding at BOH workshop at her work (Yale) in memory of a co-worker who died recently.

Tracy suggested doing BOH workshops a community service projects for Teen church groups.

Let Sharon know if you need brochures so that she can print them out. You can also print them on your own computer using the PDF files on the BOH web page. The BOH workshop kit is available to anyone in the guild who is running a workshop. Polymer Clay Express just donated 9-10 lbs. of clay. A discussion of whether we needed an additional workshop followed. It was decided that one kit is sufficient for the time being.

Gini had expressed the idea of a suggested BOH Starter Kit. We may put a list of items for a BOH Starter Kit on the website and check with PCE to see if they might be interested in offering a prepackaged kit of this sort.

If you haven’t already filled out your Member Wish List and given it to Sharon, please do so.

We will be raffling an Elise Winters Chrysalis Pin today. This is the 2nd pin, which she has generously donated. A vote was held and passed to make Elise a lifetime honorary member of SCPCG.

Rings n Things will be holding a Trunk Show at the North Haven Holiday Inn, June 21, 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Bring your tax # or you will be charged tax on your purchases.

2004 Clay ConneCTion: Diane got the available dates: Fri – Sunday, 7/23-7/25, 7/30-8/1 or 8/6-8/8. It was decided to go for the 7/23-7/25 weekend as first choice. The cafeteria is back and Alumni Hall is being renovated this year so everything should be in great shape for us in July 2004.

Michelle R had a baby boy on April 4. Congratulations. The guild is sending a card.

Tracy will be teaching an Intro to PC class at Brookfield on 7/19.

There will be a place at the Guild’s message board to post classes you are teaching.

Diane will be providing the item for the May Raffle Chain raffle, a Tulip Basket Pin. The winner of the May raffle will provide the next raffle item in July.

Lynne volunteered to host another Name Tag Swap. If you are interested please contact Lynne to sign up.

Leigh Ross is writing a BOH article for Polymer Café magazine. Contact Leigh if you have any stories etc relating to BOH. Polymer Café is giving us a free BOH ad: a call for making bottles and Polymer Café will act as a mail-in point.

Polymer Clay Central is compiling a new Teachers’ Directory. If you teach and would like to be included, check out the link at the PCC website, www.polymerclaycentral.com .

Wendy O won the Elise Winters pin raffle.

The Bottles of Hope Clay Day at Laurel Gardens was a success. It was a fun day. Diane V. taught a group of residents, one of whom was 97 years old. Approximately 75 bottles were made.

BREAK for snacks & photography.

SHOW & TELL

Bead Bazaar to be the 2nd Saturday in September. The guild will have 2 tables as usual. The Bead Society suggested that we not have so many volunteers behind the table at one time.

Snacks for May meeting: Libby & Arlene

May Demo will be on Finishing Techniques by Tracy.

The meeting adjourned at 2:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Lynne Ann Schwarzenberg
