==Views from the Editor
=="Moves in Polymer Clay" at Brookfield. Incredible. The entries ran the spectrum from the very elaborate and exotic to the most technically simple yet elegant. Names that would be instantly recognized nationwide were mixed among the group, including from our own guild! It was fascinating to see how the theme was interpreted, to say nothing of the fun of seeing how polymer clay could be encouraged into such spectacular forms. I found it gratifying to also see that while there were many examples of detailed, meticulous workmanship; beauty was also to be found in technically simply but elegant treatments. I won’t try to describe them here… you’ve just gotta go!
==SCPCG Clay Weekend of Feb 1&2, 2003 A GREAT success! Approximately 25 people attended, although not all at the same time. It felt like a Clay Connection, just more relaxed. Sat and Sun started about 9AM (you’ll have to find an ‘early bird’ to confirm that) and ended about 11:30PM Saturday and about 10PM on Sunday. (I –can- vouch for those hours…) The classes were more leisurely, with time to go back to your workspace and actually give it a try, and the instructors were there to help anyone with a question or technique.
It was great to wander around and see each different interpretation of what we had just learned, and see how other people worked. Food and drink was available to nibble when one felt faint or in need of inspiration, and mealtimes we’d seem to gather at one table, then recharged with nourishment and friendship, go back and play in our clay. This was definitely a big bargain for your buck, and a terrific way to re-inspire your clay work. I’ve heard more than once and from varying people that these ‘clay day’s’ are a great help, even if they’ve already taken the classes offered by that instructor because you get so many hints just from being in the room and hearing so many little hints and suggestions that are just dropped as asides.
…..and oh yeah... Leigh Ross arrived home without one of her roller/brayer’s, did anyone find an extra packed in their stuff? And for the late night folks, could whoever provided the CD player check and see if one of Leigh’s CD’s were left in it? She’s missing one of her bitchin’ babes…..
